Objectives and roles of the Indian Nursing Council
Here are the objectives and roles of INC are given, by which you can understand it well. All of them are given below:
- The council is responsible for the recognition of a degree, certificate, or diploma which is awarded by foreign universities.
- INC maintains the Indian Nurses Register, for the registration of nursing personnel.
- INC also promotes research in nursing.
- It prescribes professional conduct and a code of ethics.
- It prescribes minimum education and training standards in different nursing courses. In addition, under Section 19 of the INC Act of 1947, they prescribe the regulations and syllabus.
- It regulates the policies for nursing training programs for the improvement of the quality of nursing education.
- INC also regulates monitoring and establishes uniform standards of nursing education for auxiliary nurse midwives, health visitors, and nurse midwives by conducting inspections of different institutions.
- Under section 11(2)(a) of the INC Act, 1947, the council approves the registration of foreign and Indian nurses possessing qualifications from a foreign country.
- It recognizes the qualification of the INC Act, 1947 under section 10(2)(4) for employment and registration in India, as well as in foreign countries.
- INC advises different state nursing councils, state governments, central governments, and examining boards on different crucial items regarding nursing education in India.
- It holds the power of withdrawing the recognition of an institution under section 14 of the INC Act, 1947.
- This happens only when a state council recognized institute fails to meet or maintain its standards as prescribed under section 14 (1) (b) of the INC Act.
Different nursing programs approved by INC
Numerous programs are approved by the Indian Nursing Council. These programs are offered according to the specialties of the course. Let’s check the programs, their fees, time, and registration.
Programming
Auxiliary Nurse & Midwife (ANM): ANM is an abbreviation for Auxiliary Nurse & Midwife.
The duration of this program is 2 years and it charges INR 30,000 to INR 1,75,000. One can register for this program through R.ANM (Registered Auxiliary Nurse & Midwife).
General Nursing and Midwifery:
This program’s duration is 3 and half years and one has to pay for it INR 30,000 to INR 2.5 Lakhs. One can get registered as an RN (Registered Nurse) or RM (Registered Midwife).
Nursing (B.Sc.):
Post-Basic B.Sc. Nursing:
It has a time duration based on regularity and distance. For the regular course, the duration is 2 years, and if someone does this course from a distance, then the time is 3 years. For registration, it needs additional qualifications. For this course, one has to pay INR 20,000-to INR 1.3 lakhs.
M.Sc. in Nursing:
This course is for 2 years for the students and in this course, the expenditure is INR 1.30 lakhs.
M.Phil in Nursing
If someone wants to pursue the M.Phil in nursing, then the duration of this course is 1 year for regular students, and for part-time students, it is 2 years. The course fee is between INR 10,000 and INR 4,00,000.
Ph.D.
The students who want to pursue Ph.D. will complete the program in 3 to 5 years. Its fees are not described by the government because they are different based on qualification.

One can look for the different colleges in India for the nursing course and also choose from them in which you want to take admission. You can look for the last five years’ best colleges, institutions, or universities for the nursing course and training, and from there you can pursue the course. You can choose the type of pursuing the course according to your preference, but along with that, you also have to look at which type, of course, has more value and which is more beneficial. INC (Indian Nursing Council) also approves the degrees or diplomas of foreign countries, which means if someone completes his or her degree or diploma in a foreign country and comes back to the nation, then the government approves it. But for this, you have to check which countries’ degrees are approved by the Indian Government, otherwise, you did not do practice in India.
