Finally ICC has announced the details of the T20 world cup 2021. This year’s T20 world cup will be played in Dubai from 17 October to 14 November. This is the 7th edition of the biggest event of the shortest format of the game. The T20 world cup was scheduled to be played last year but was postponed due to the worldwide spread of COVID19. Later on, its was decided that BCCI will host the event in India but in the shadow of an upcoming third wave and increase in the number of Covid cases the venue for the T20 games is jointly hosted by UAE and OMAN.
Teams and Groupings
ICC has announced the venue and teams for the ICC T20 world cup 2021. The venue for the T20 world cup 2021 is Dubai & Oman. Teams are also announced by ICC in the first round of the tournament eight teams will compete to save a spot in the super 12 out of which only four teams will go through in round two of the event super 12 will play against each with one team to get the prestigious trophy of T20 2021 world cup winner.
Below are the teams and their groupings for round 1 and round 2 of the event.
The groupings:
Round 1
Group A: Sri Lanka, Ireland, the Netherlands and Namibia
Group B: Bangladesh, Scotland, Papua New Guinea and Oman
Super 12s
Group 1: England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies, A1 and B2.
Group 2: India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan, A2 and B1.
T20 World Cup Schedule
In the middle of the ongoing pandemic situation, good news has come in the form of an announcement of ICC T20 world to be played in UAE and Oman starting from 17 October 2021 final of the tournament will take place on 14 November 2021.
The first round of the tournament will be played between the teams of group A and Group B who will compete against teams in their respective groups to get a spot in the Super 12.
In the second round, Super 12 teams are divided in Group 1 and Group 2 where they will compete to confirm their spot in the qualifiers. The winner of the qualifiers will face each other in the decider of the event to be played on 14 November 2021.
